Duchess of Cambridge Visits Hope House

I’ve been planning a “Random Royal Events” update for weeks; unfortunately, this is a lot like planning to go to the gym–the planning won’t make me do it! I’d like to believe that my productivity has increased recently, so I plan on this being the final “mea culpa” post for a significant time–and I will see that plan to the end!

The Duchess of Cambridge made her first public charity visit since her pregnancy announcement today. She visited Hope House, an all-female rehabilitation center affiliated with her charity Action on Addiction, and spoke with many of the clients and staff at the facility. She looked lovely and radiant, naturally!

This is also her first official event of the new year; just last week she and The Duke of Cambridge were on vacation in the West Indies. As I’m sure you’re all aware, despite the semblance of privacy on a, you know, privately-owned island, paparazzi photographed the couple. Several European papers have published the photos, unfortunately, despite pleas for privacy from the Palace. This isn’t the first and won’t be the last breach of privacy for the couple.

Anyway, it was nice to see Her Royal Highness back in business! I adore her classic wrap dress, of course, but that’s neither here nor there. She is supposed to be making several more charity visits within the next month and I look forward to them!

The Duchess is still in the early stages of her pregnancy, so in some photos it doesn’t even appear that she is pregnant! I just hope she’s feeling better.

There’s a bunch of hoopla concerning author Hilary Mantel’s essay that declared the Duchess “a shop-window mannequin” and accused her of a vacuous personality. I will address this in greater detail tomorrow. I also plan (there’s that word again!) to post about the abdication of the Pope Beatrix, Queen of the Netherlands. Naturally, Beatrix and United Kingdom’s Queen are cousins, although much more distant than you’d imagine!
