The Duchess of Cambridge was back in action tonight–but don’t get too excited, it was a quick glimpse before she retreats until at least Christmas, if not after. To those audacious enough to claim they could see the baby bump a few weeks ago, I dare you to see it here:
I thought as much. What a gorgeous gown, too–it’s floor length and very regal! Oh, and of course it’s Alexander McQueen.
The Duchess presented the Sports Personality of the Year trophy to runner-up Jessica Ennis and first place winner Bradley Wiggins.
She also gave a lifetime achievement award to the chairman of the Olympics committee, Lord Sebastian Coe. After the rushed announcement of her pregnancy last week the Duchess has been recuperating from hyperemesis gravidarum; she’s canceled several appearances, including charity functions and The Hobbit premiere, which The Duke of Cambridge attended alone. Given the Duchess’s commitment to her role as an Olympics ambassador and her love of sports in general, it is delightful to see that she made it to this ceremony.
It’s been a rough week for everyone; it seemed like bad news was going to overwhelm us. This is why I will continue to post about my frivolous and furious loves, even in the face of national tragedy, because I think many of us could use the smile and distraction.
