The Queen Boards the Royal Barge on the Thames

A good thing I made myself wake when I did–I nearly missed Her Majesty boarding the Royal Barge, the Spirit of Chartwell, on the Thames! The Diamond Jubilee River Pageant is underway now and I am watching live streaming from the BBC.

She has been joined by The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince Harry. There are over 1,000 boats in the flotilla, the largest assembled on the Thames in over 300 years.

The flotilla is led by Gloriana, the new Royal row barge, named in honor of Elizabeth I and built in honor of Elizabeth II. Hundreds of thousands of people have lined the Thames to see the pageant, some camped out, like I was last year, to get the best view! At least I didn’t have to camp out in the rain…

It looks like everyone is having fun aboard the Spirit of Chartwell!

The Spirit of Chartwell has now moved from its mooring and is heading down the Thames in the flotilla. What an amazing sight!

God Save The Queen! Hip, hip, hooray!!
