What a pageant! I wish I were down there on the river right now to experience this sight!
This is the Jubilee Bells preceding the Gloriana; there are eight bells constantly ringing, in honor of the eight senior members of the Royal Family.
And what a view of London:
The Queen’s barge, the Spirit of Chartwell, is at Westminster Bridge at the moment and will end at Tower Bridge in about an hour.
Don’t be deceived, there are many more Royal Family members on the river Thames than it appears; The Princess Royal, The Duke of Gloucester, The Duke of York and his daughters, and The Earl and Countess of Wessex are all on other boats or barges in the flotilla. The Queen has not yet taken her seat on the barge throne (seen above in front of The Duchess of Cambridge); knowing her, she may not take a break to sit!
The Royal Barge has just passed the largest image ever made of The Royal Family, taken on The Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977.
Apparently this was not in the official plans, so it was a surprise for The Royal Family. What a feat!
And, yes, The Queen has not yet sat down; she seems to be taking it all in and enjoying every moment. The BBC presenters pointed out that this may be the largest ever event in her honor; for sixty glorious years on the throne, this display of affection and respect for The Queen is justified!
